Open Playtest
Good morning everyone,
So, we have access to the most recent 2E draft and I believe it is time to kick away from the Human Republic and their peacemongering Senate . Let's start a public playtest with a few of you guys! So I have to ask the general question, what kind of campaign do you want to start? Tyrel has shown us very well what the start-from-scratch scenario is, and while that is Tyrel's favorite campaign style, mine is the high-drama and operational stylings of settings like Wing Commander and B5.
I am tempted to run a game with a few players on each side, and maybe set the whole thing in a Confederation/Kilrathi or EA Civil War/Dilgar War style game. Then we can try to use the tech system to emulate an existing setting and see how close to the mark we are. What do you think?

Re: Open Playtest
Tyrel's start-from-scratch game is interesting (and I'm following it avidly), but I was wondering how an existing map with empires would look. Either the WC or B5 scenarios would be good ones. Perhaps the Terran Civil War scenario for 1e as another possibility?

Re: Open Playtest
Sounds like fun I like same style campaigns as you do. I am interested in participating but I will only be able to do weekly turns.
Re: Open Playtest
Sounds interesting. I am curious to see how the new rules perform under pressure.

Re: Open Playtest
I'm interested.
I like the start from scratch type games but a more advanced start could definitely be interesting and probably better from a rules testing perspective.

Re: Open Playtest
I have had a lot of interest in Stars Divided, and given where that setting left of, there is still a lot of universe to explore. So, we will also be adding Noel Weer and Steve Brindle to the playtest.
I am thinking that some of the smaller entities, like the Haur, will be run by one person, but we could divide command on some of the larger Empires. So, let's get a proper list together here.
Noel "Puppet Master" Weer
Steve "The ERB" Brindle
Gareth "Super Playtester" Perkins
Murtalian "Definite Maybe" Confederacy
Mavik "Interested in Playing" Felna
Aelius "Attention to Details"
Mark "The Pilot" Gladman
"The" Feral Koala

Re: Open Playtest
I'll play, if near-complete lack of knowledge of anything pre-2E doesn't rule me out. I wanted to do a solo playtest of 2E but found the lack of all the random npc and exploration generation system and no 1E knowledge crippling.

Hah - I wish, it's just that I've played far too many games with rules lawyers in the past...mwaschak wrote:Gareth "Super Playtester" Perkins
But as an aside, it's "Gareth Lazelle" these days (I know my username is out of date),

Re: Open Playtest
I'm just worried about the amount of time (or, rather, lack of it) I'd have to actually playtest on here. I have a reasonable chunk of time, but have a 18 hour gap where communication is impossible. If I were on one side that had others to do decision-making as well, I'd be happy to join up, but I wouldn't be able to do it if I were a lone player...

Re: Open Playtest
No problem. If you want to just join in as the game progresses that is certainly an option. We probably have to adjust the scale of the game depending on who is regularly available and who wants to be a "supporting character".
With that said I think our first step should be trying to create a few of the stalwarts ships of the SD universe, especially those with Uhlans (fast operational) drives. This gives me time to figure out what this map is going to look like!
What do you think?

Re: Open Playtest
Stars Divided would be good starting point, lets see if we can get some good ship conversions.
Re: Open Playtest
Sounds good.
