It is definitely beautiful.

Yes, yes, and it must feature flaming death and everything, all on a totally epic scale, with a glowing nebula in the background. And a black hole. And no less that 250 starships.

Epic is just such subjective term it would be hard to say. It does not include flaming death, a black hole or 250 ships (at least right now).

I'm sure someone could photoshop a black hole in there somewhere.

The best (possibly only) EPIC cover I've seen on an SFU product was on the outsourced Star Fleet Warlord rulebook. A 20 strong fleet of Gorn ships sweeps into view over the edge of a planet with a starbase and defending starships lying far off in the distance.

Bizarely it lookes epic because the ships are small and distant and there is no obvious fighting going on - just a sense of menace and of a big clash about to happen. Most of the Star Fleet products seem to have a cover that consists of two giant ships blowing seven shades of manure out of each other, seemingly from a range of about 10 feet. To me that just doesn't look, well, epic.

Yes,

Warlord is a good cover - old-school but good,

Not only is Omega's cover not Epic, but it also really sucks, despite the style being newer (it also somehow really emphasizes the 2D game play of SFB, which is a personal gripe),

Because Epic was a kick-ass minis game in 6mm, hence all dudes were tiny. Razz

Pfff,

It wasn't called "Epic" in my day... And if memory serves, Epic sucked compared with the original (boy do I sound old now...)

What I call "Epic" was Epic Space Marine, or the 2nd Edition of the game. All subsequent editions have blown varying degrees of chunks.

I know a few guys who are quite happy with the current incarnation of Epic, and who have played at least a few editions worth.

But I recall Adeptus Titanicus, and the cut out infantry counters from White Dwarf too

Aye, there's nothing wrong with old school.

Agreed, that Omega cover manages to make something that is actually quite exciting (the product inside the cover is pretty good and a very decent stab at making SFB a fast and fluid game) look completely the opposite.

The cover art for Federation Commander: Tholian Attack is actually somewhat epic. For something that doesn't have 6 millimetre tall genetically engineered supersoldiers.

Just checked out that cover. You're right, one of the better modern covers in terms of epic-ness. The ships are still crazily close together though, but it does well in terms of depicting a bit of 3D-ness.
