I'm interested in using MAS for historical campaigns - in particular Vietnam.

Any though been given to producing some modules like that?

Hello.

Yes, it has been something we considered. I was weary about applying a mercenary angle, so I needed quite a bit more research regarding "real" squadron management from a military perspective. However if you have some ideas I am all ears :) .

And we can keep it "wargame lite" akin to Panzer General and its clones, which were fun WWII era games without being too crunchy detailed with prestige instead of $ (same rates though).

I think the system could be used for a Historical approach with minimal alteration. Obviously many anachronisms would be introduced but simply revising the available planes and weapons shouldn't be too hard. I just discovered MAS but I'll be getting hard at work on a Vietnam approach. Navy Squadrons and USAF Squadrons could 'bid' to take on Campaigns... representative of Inter and Intra Service rivalries. The $$ become more symbolic of course... Hmm, my Jolly Roger Squadron operating from Yankee Station bidding against your Bolo Flight from Thailand to Campaign in Route Pack Four... cool. Rival Navy Squadrons could just as well 'bid' against each other.

I anxiously await the WWII MAS, but let me campaign now for the PTO to be the second release! I want my Corsairs! :)

Welcome to the forums!

It's too soon to say for sure, but I'm leaning towards PTO for #2. Gotta have the Yanks before we can go to the ETO!

I'm nearing the end of the grunt work getting MTO put together, so it shouldn't be much longer now!

Welcome!

Hello Heckmac,

That could work. We could probably introduce various squadrons within the setting and service too, but all in all I think your approach would be spot on. If you felt like doing a formal write-up I am sure everyone would like to see the end result.
I could see that we would need a few more planes for each side and probably for each service. Then we could reorder those lists by rarity and "price". We could add a few historic campaigns too in which we know several services may have been involved.

Already working on some lists! I do want to get a few more solo campaigns under my belt before I do too much, so that I can learn the nuances of the system. I'll get something together sooner then later.

That is certainly understandable. I am looking forward to the final result. I also have most of the stats for the 60's planes done, but need to help Charlie get WWII:MTO out the door first because I sit down to more plane sheets.

On that happy note Keith Tracton sent me the gamebox he made for MAS in http://www.zuntzu.com/get_started.htm. So we may have some great play by internet options soon.
