Glorious Stars Play Aid Website - Alpha

Post by OneMadOgre »

I've added enough security that if you try to edit something the website will blow up on you.

http://vbam2.azurewebsites.net/

It's uptime is going to be highly variable for two reasons.
1. It's a free 90 day trial from MS Azure and I'm not really paying for anything yet. So we we exceed the "last hour computing resources" limit, it will be down for an hour while it resets.
2. I work on it and I'm a horrible coder, so you may see it go up and down, especially in the evenings as I play with it.

What it has....

The star map, jump lanes, stellar stats for our playtest. You can pan and zoom on the star map interfaces.

What it doesn't have...

The ships thing isn't at all in this playtest. That's something I've been playing with.
The calculations based on Carry, BIO, and RAW are all wrong I'm going to bet once we see the new playtest rules. When I get those, I will update the calculations.
Facilities aren't in yet.
Lots of other stuff. If it's not working, yeah, I'm not there yet.

Enjoy! Feedback is welcome, but please understand I may choose to ignore it because I am lazy and not always a good developer. :lol:

Whoops. I little help for you guys.

Yellow circles....
# of circles is the CARRY value
Filled circles are CENSUS value
Solid circles are MORALE value

Brown circles next to yellow circles are RAW value
Green circles next to brown circles are BIO value
Blue circles underneath Yellow circles are INFRA (or PRD now I guess.)

Red/Green circles are an attempt to do food calculations. Don't read into this until we get the new calculation.
Grey circles with a Number value is the EP generation. Same thing here, the calculation isn't correct yet.

Next up this evening is to finish off the integration with Google for authentication. I'm going to use the gmail accounts I see to connect you to your houses and set you up so you can edit the names of your stars and settlements.

This is awesome! Any chance you could illuminate the meaning of the various colored circles with some well-placed tooltips for mouse-hover? My html is pretty rusty these days but attributes like e.g. title="# of circles is the CARRY value; Filled circles are CENSUS value; Solid circles are MORALE value" attribute on the containing span or div ought to do the trick.

Code: Select all

<html>
	<head>
	</head>
	<body>
		<h1 title="header!">My Header</h1>
		<div title="div!">
			<span title="div-span!">This is a span in a div!</span>
		</div>
		<span title="non-div-span!">Another span! Not in a div!</span>
	</body>
</html>

Yes to mouseovers. Thank you. Good idea.

Also.. Interested in what players would like to see on an Empire Overview type page.

Total population.
Gross Domestic Product.
Gross Trade Income.
Total maintenance cost (and perhaps broken up by category, ships / bases / ground / facilities)
Tech level, and research progress as % and XX/YY
Active treaties and declarations with my empire's name in them.

Thatd be a pretty awesome start to a dashboard. :-)

How's this for a starting point?

http://vbam2.azurewebsites.net/player/Details/3

Also, logins should now let you use a Google ID to login. Doesn't let you do anything else in terms of edits, but I did fix my typo in the database connection string from last night.

I will second that! This site does look very good. I do have one minor issue. When I go to the page, the map only shows the extreme western edge. I can scroll up and down, but I cannot pan left or right. Is there a specific web browser that you would prefer that I use?

Thanks!
It's not as bad as it turned out to be.

Huh. You should be able to move it left, right, up and down by grabbing with the left mouse button and dragging the map. Mouse wheel should zoom. All bets are off with a Mac, I don't have one to test with. I've also noticed on my iPads that it's very difficult to click on a system name, as the pinch functionality seems to trigger for zoom instead.

Going to have it start in the middle of the map instead of the top left corner. Also thinking of where I want to drop off authenticated users, thinking on an empire dashboard screen with the system summary linked to each of their controlled systems.

Thank you for the feedback, it is most welcome.

I found that to pan left/right on firefox I had to grab one of the colored spheres around a system (as opposed to the black background). Took me a little while to learn that trick.

Also, my northern system is Harenhal. I'm DOOOOOMED! :)

You know, I've been doing that for so long, I've completely forgotten to mention it. Yes, the pan and zoom is only currently functioning if the javascript can see that your mouse is over an object like a control circle or a star system name.

Steve, thanks for the heads-up on panning the map. That did the trick!

Ogre - I am glad to provide feedback. Thanks for all of the effort here!

Updated the minor houses to 10 carry from 8 carry.
Updated the stats for Starfall
Updated the stats for Sol (don't know how it got to 2 PRD from 8 PRD)
Updated foodconsumed to follow Census*2 instead of ((Census-1)*2 * Census)
Updated all colonies via database script
Updated all player stats via database script

Plan for this evening is to try to get facilities into the database.
