Tech Level Economic Bonuses

At the beginning of the Campaign Guide, the glossary says:

Tech: Tech is the representation of the technological development of a society. Over the
course of a campaign, a player will have to decide how much investment in technology is
needed to remain competitive with their neighbors. If ignored, a player may find their
productivity and troop effectiveness fall behind that of their neighbors.

But as near as I can tell, tech advancement never provides an economic bonus to an empire. There are not even optional rules for this in the Moderator's Companion.

Is this true? Does VBAM have no provisions for allowing advanced empires to be more productive than poor empires?

Has anyone come up with alternate rules for this, perhaps giving like a 10% economic bonus for each tech level over a certain baseline?

Generally the economic bonus is indirect..
ships of higher tech and same capability are generally smaller and cheaper..
i.e. low tech BB equals high tech DD in combat but the DD will be cheaper to build and maintain.

That's very indirect.

It also requires a ton of new units to make tech investment worthwhile.

I'm going to have to come up with an economic bonus I think. Maybe .01 per tech year or something.

Well, the NPE rules do allow a more advanced power an initial boost to their colonies productivity (half their INT level, I believe, rounded down), but that isn't that much of a benefit...

I went with a .01 economic bonus per tech year.
