Supply routes

Okay, to ask you the question, first a little story...
Two empires are at war, and one side launches an attack into a fringe system as part of an operation for striking at the juicy shipyards over a very important colony. The defenders are completely annihilated, and there are no more space units left for the defender in that system.
My question is, would the attackers then be able to go onto the primary target, leave setting troops down on the first system, and still be in supply? I think its a yes, but I'm not sure. And would it also be correct to say that a fleet would be in supply if an enemy fleet existed in the first system, but it was blockaded by the attackers?
