Has anyone done a conversion for using VBAM in the Fading Suns setting? It seems like it could be a pretty good fit. There is already an established star map and there are different factions that are often eager to clash with each other.
I'd have to really read them (as opposed to skimming them) but maybe the criminal empire rules might be adaptable to cover the church and guild factions. Might even be able to pull some information from the video game from a while back and have a game set during the emperor wars with a lot of neutral 'colonies' that can be pulled into various major factions before the factions themselves seriously start hitting each other.

As far as I know, no one ever did a Fading Suns conversion. You're right, though, in that it's a great setting for a VBAM game.
The Underground Empires rules can be a little tricky to manage, but could work for the Church and Guilds. At least for the Church, you might also consider giving them scattered holdings and at-start treaties that allow them to move freely through everyone else's territory.
