Some questions about the CSCR...

Post by gambler »

Hey guys...

Couple of questions about the CSCR.

One isn't a question, so much as a comment. The equation to determine AS and AF fire is algebraically the same.

AS damage = (AS * ( D6 + RM) / 10 )
AF Damage = (AF * ( D3 + RM / 2) / 5 )

Another way to look at AF Damage is:

(AF * ( (D6 / 2) + (RM / 2) ) / 5)

This collapses to (AF * ((D6 + RM) / 2) / 5 )

Which is the same as:

(AF * ( D6 + RM ) / 10)

Now in the integrated example, some of the AF calculations use RM / 2, and others just use RM. Since I can't find anything in the rules themselves that say that sometimes it's just RM, I assume that's an error and the two equations (AS and AF damage calculations) are really the same.

Another question about Scouts...

To clarify, if a scout is 'used' in the Task Force Setup, can it still be used in each "Scout Mission Assignments During Combat" phase? The example specifically describes the one side keeping a scout out of the TF Setup phase so that the scout functions can be used in combat, but 3.6.3.11.2 specifically says that scouts 'used' can still assign scout functions.

In another question...
In 3.6.3.11.1 DedicatedMissions:
"A dedicated anti-fighter squadron may use its AF factors from ships or fighters to engage fighters in any one other squadron, but not vice versa."

What does the "but not vice versa"bit refer to? The 'or' implies that either ships OR fighters in a squadron may engage fighters, but not both. Is this what the vice versa refers to?

Continuing with the next sentence:
"These AF factors are added with AF factors from any other friendly units in the squadron being supported by the dedicated anti-fighter squadron."

Oy vey... My brain explodes when I try to parse that sentence. My guess is, that you assign the AF squadron to your OWN squadrons, not the enemy (although it doesn't say that specifically - up until I typed this in, I assumed you assigned the AF squadron to an ENEMY squadron) and thus that squadron's AF factors help out the dedicated AF squadron.

Is this more or less right? :)

"A dedicated anti-fighter squadron may use its AF factors from ships or fighters to engage fighters in any one other squadron, but not vice versa."
The vice-versa specifically refers to ship squadrons on dedicated AF missions.

If Squadron A is on a dedicated AF mission defending squadron B then its AF factors may be used to engage fighters attacking squadron B,

However, squadron B may not reciprocate and provide AF fire against fighters attacking squadron A,
"These AF factors are added with AF factors from any other friendly units in the squadron being supported by the dedicated anti-fighter squadron."
If squadron A is providing AF support to squadron B then add together their AF ratings and roll using the resulting total,
