I think SD would make a good setting to emulate, as long as it wasn't too close. I like civil wars, they're colorful.
Besides it means we only have to come up with one starting fleet. After the start both sides would of course be free to prototype new classes.

And while my faction likes mobile forces, I approve of adding some more fortresses to secure the homeworld. I even like the idea of a squadron of fortresses at Carthage. If we build up shipyards at Archer I suppose we will need defenses there too. but I would prefer to see what our other scouts find...

When you say Transcendent life is 100% productive without colony infrastructure what do you mean? Do you just use the RAW and Biosphere times census and produce that way. And what about shipyards now that they are an infrastructure for colonies?

No, they don't have the overwhelming tech advantage. I am looking to use them in a solo campaign as bad guys the starting race could encounter.
