Re: Tech Levels

Just use the tech level as the tech year.
Drop the 3000 part and go with the levels from 0 up.
For example, Tech Level 4 would be equal to Tech Year 3004.
That's how I would do it.

Re: Advanced Star Systems

I like it. I always liked B5 and these rules work very well for my games.
I also think the supply line idea for the jump gates is very good. It makes them very important.

Re: Your Wishlist for Companion and First Contact?

I have been thinking about my "second set of Intelligence rules" comment, and I think that would be a good way to handle most of the non ship or base functions of a UE. It keeps it to one set of rules that re already in the game, it just adds new missions for UE's. The missions could be cu...

Re: VBAM Second Edition Errata

Italicized doesn't bother me.
And I like your Shield idea.
I never had any problem with the "additional squadrons" description. The flagship controls its squadrons plus a number equal to its CR.

Re: Your Wishlist for Companion and First Contact?

For the Underworld Empires you could probably just call Corruption Influence depending on the type of UE you are talking about. The die rolls would work the same way, just have a different set of modifiers. I recognize that balancing those modifiers is the real trick, but that is the best way I have...

Re: VBAM Second Edition Errata

Page 120 says this in paragraph 3 of section 5.4.3.4 "The point costs for these abilities can be found on the Special Abilities Table. For example, it costs 2 CP to add a point of Assault rating to a unit class." However the table lists the CP cost as 1. I assume the table is correct, but...

Re: Your Wishlist for Companion and First Contact?

I thought of something I really want in FC. Some kind of trait to cover "Assimilation". I created a thread about it a few years ago and I noticed it in some of the "road to 2e" pdf's. It is a great trait for things other than Borg. Illithids need a host to mature their young, and...

Re: Favorite Tactical Systems to use with VBAM

I am really looking forward to the Full Thrust book. It is my favorite for light but fun space tactical rules.
Combine with WAP and it should be awesome.

Re: Your Wishlist for Companion and First Contact?

I assume you are still planning to release the Engineering Manual, or whatever the tech book is going to be called. After the Companion and First Contact that is the one I want most. Is it going to be in the next wave of releases after those two? And just in general, is the EM or some other product ...

Re: Your Wishlist for Companion and First Contact?

For the love of God, give me the Admiral level system generation!! Or at least the new version of them. I do like the detailed sysgen for some campaigns. For the core rules I just use the same scale as Federation and Empire and call each hex a sector. Makes for a grand epic galactic war. For ...

Re: 2nd Edition progress?

Sounds good. I like the unit design rules. Can't wait for the Engineering book... Checked out the link. It looks like it could be fun. And for a more typical game it seems like you could use a lot of those missions as random events or public outcries. Just replace victory points with bonuses or cons...

Re: 2nd Edition progress?

Picked up mine from Drive-Thru. Looks nice, but I am glad I kept up with your announced future expansions or I would be kind of disappointed. It is very much a clean up of the original VBAM rather than an outright change. I see how the streamlining and modularity of the rules will make expanding whe...
