Re: Playtest Rules Notes
Do civilian fleets have a maintenance cost? I can't find it in the rules.

Re: Playtest Rules Notes
2013-01-06-A.pdf lists Maintenance Cost on p. 66 as 1/100 of sum of combat factors and special ability factors. Is that intended? 1/10, and rounding up to the nearest half-point, generates maint. costs a bit more like what I was anticipating. Are we expecting to see much, much bigger fleets in VBAM ...

Re: Spreadsheet help
Oh, and -- tiny optimization. Where in O6 you have, for example, a hardcoded "2" to represent "Nation 2", if you change it to =INDEX(B5:F5, 1, 2) You'll get an auto-lookup of the other name in the relationship. I had to do this separately for each cell in the column, unfortunatel...

Re: Spreadsheet help
Ah. Aha. You're omitting the optional final argument, which means Excel is opting for "approximate match" instead of exact match. This is fine so long as all entries are in alphabetical / numerical order (as is the case with "Nation 1", "Nation 2" etc), but as soon as y...

Re: Spreadsheet help
This version of the function seems to do what you want, assuming BIO and CAP are supposed to take the hit in the case where RAW and BIO are equal: For the RAW field: =VLOOKUP(D4,Data!$A$7:$E$13,2,TRUE)+IF(VLOOKUP(D4,Data!$A$7:$E$13,2,TRUE) > VLOOKUP(D4,Data!$A$7:$E$13,3,TRUE), 1, 0)*VLOOKUP($A4, Dat...

Re: Spreadsheet help
Hi Emiricol,
If you can attach the XLS file to a forum post (or put it up on Dropbox or whatever) then I can take a stab at it.

Re: Concerns ...
That would be Campaign Strategic Combat Resolution (or somesuch similar acronym), the "battle simulation" included in the VBAM rules for those who don't wish to plug in a tactical system of their own.

Re: Concerns ...
For the sake of a balancing viewpoint: I myself have no real concerns on this. From what I've read so far of the 2E model, I think you can still plugin your own tactical system, assign corresponding construction and maintenance costs, and be good to go. Everything but BC and MC can be eschewed from ...

Re: Revised Technology and Combat
But you still ended up with 9 ships per side, which is actually correct for the CR/CC balance as written, so either you made two math errors that cancel each other out or you knew what you were doing the whole time

Assume that "additional 3 cruisers" is actually "additional 2 cruisers" ?Tyrel Lohr wrote: CR 6, CC 3
He spends 9 CP on the scenario; this allows him to bring in 3 Bull Run cruisers as squadron command units, and each of those can command an additional 3 cruisers in their squadron.

Re: VBAM 2E Playtest Files (Was: Any Updates?)
Wow. Really excited. That sounds like a lot of drift, mostly of the "ruthlessly simplify, streamline and generalize" variety that seemed necessary given the last flurry of forum discussion around the rules development. Good luck with the feature-lock, and I for one look forward to prying m...
