Re: VBAM 2E Playtest Files (Was: Any Updates?)
That would work. I just wanted to point out that they have different functions in the game, one producing to a level and one producing discrete 'projects' so they don't have to have the same game mechanics necessarily. Tyrel, I also think that tech should really be worth having even if it 'only' goe...

Rules organization
How about a thread for comments on the rulebook itself. Perhaps you could consider moving the NPE rules to a seperate section. Basically, in the exploration section, note the chance to discover an NPE race, then referthe reader to the section 'NPEs'. move all those rules about setting up an NPE empi...

Curious about change to flat rate
So, I think one of the biggest changes from 1E is going to flat rate increase cost (50 points it seems) from the increasing cost model (10* new value). this is pretty big change, and i was sort of curious why.... it does make intensive development more attractive, which makes a turtle strategy more ...

Re: VBAM 2E Playtest Files (Was: Any Updates?)
Now thinking about it, how about considering using Tech points to buy Intel missions? I know it is different, but I think it makes sense (in that Tech is more human capital and intel missions would be more dependant on that than on industrial output) and it gives the player choices for tp rather tha...

Re: VBAM 2E Playtest Files (Was: Any Updates?)
This is neither here nor there, but in my games of 1E, I wanted a more 'wargame' feel which includes more pressure on logistics and staff planning. So I created a production center "HQ" which produced Logistic and Planning Points, which were used to supply units operating away from base (a...

Re: VBAM 2E Playtest Files (Was: Any Updates?)
Well, one thing that jumps to mind is that they don't have to be handled the same way. Really Tech is more like Prod, it is the output of many processes that are abstracted into a game resource, which are then used to produce something else. So it should be handled like the basic resource production...

Re: VBAM 2E Playtest Files (Was: Any Updates?)
I think they look really good. They seem much more focused. I really like the 'Detection' and 'Surprise' interaction. i think that opens up some interesting game possibilities. You could have sensor platforms which give bonus to a side, but could be vulnerable to sabatoge missions... it is great. it...

Re: Federation Admiral Public Update
A board game would rock!!!!! I think there is definately a niche for a 'Fifth Frontier War' type of game. And the GMT just released Space Empires which I think has done very well. Would you want it to be a sort of 4x feel (like SE) or would you tie it into a fixed map (like FFW)? Maybe you could do ...

Re: Curious about the business tactic used here...
Thank you very much. I really do appreciate the update. I do understand that it is a labor of love, and that nearly everything else is higher priorty. But even a little note once in a while, after requesting input, really helps feel like the company is engaged. It might even help drive some sales! T...

Re: Curious about the business tactic used here...
Yeah it is sort of quiet/weird. I thought that we had shown some good support when they asked for feedback. And really it was clear that they could use some additional playtesting/stresstesting. It seemed to me that the community responds when there is something to respond to. But now it is starting...

Curious about the business tactic used here...
I am just sort of curious about the rationale behind the long silence that the game developers use on this message board. Is it to highten tension? sort of a take on the 'keep them mean, keep them keen' dating school of relationships? I mean, there were some people on this board that took a fair amo...

Re: Thought Experiments: Playing with the Rules
To amplify what Virtutis says, Census should not be the limiting factor (especially as it represents an exponential scale) but how about cap also limiting the sum total of productive "infrastructure facilities" that can work simultaniously on a planet, which is sort of standard for at leas...

Re: 2E Feedback
Good to hear your current thinking on these things. It sounds like the rules are firming up and getting tighter, it is great! System stats: I understand what you mean about few stats leading to more low value systems, but I am not sure it is a bad thing. You were right when you pointed out before th...

Re: 2E Feedback
This is sort of a stylistic issue, but you have quite a bit of material that relates to why things are the way they are rather than just the straight up rules. i do like this actually, but from a rule-book ease of use standpoint, what do you think about moving that stuff to sidebars? it is useful to...
