I haven't been around in quite a while, but I've long thought about using VBAM to create a dynamic history and dynamic setting events during an RPG campaign
Edit: In 1E I even went so far as to stat out ships, power armors and more in Savage Worlds terms. It was an awesome idea, at least

Re: Fall of Night
I'll stick with Single Squadron rules for combat, as it hits the "sweet spot" in every regard for me. The new tech system interests me because tech advancement is one area where I like more details, more granularity. I'd be interested in seeing more on it, but I wonder whether it might be ...

Re: Galaxies: Federation Border
Impressive campaign setup Might need more Production on Iadora and a couple minors unless Galaxies did away with the rule about Production being less than half of Census. And even a little bit of Intel... Yeah, there's never enough resources to do what needs doing, way out there on the frontier

Re: Rising Tide solo 2E/Galaxy
They just didn't have anything really to spend it on. Once they get a couple more tech breakthroughs, and CEN increases for Productivity purchases, getting max System Intel, occupying Talason... they'll burn through a chunk of that. Bad Diplomacy Shift dice rolls three years running with the player ...

Tensions Rising Uncontrollably Tasalon Agitators Sabotage Own Fleet, Blame Emperor Samarth, Sept. 10, 3001: Tensions since July's so-called Tourist Incident continue to rise despite the best Sanarthian diplomatic efforts. Both nations filed additional formal complaints in August, related to the ori...

Re: Space Combat - The Elephant in the Room
... ships in combat at any one time makes sense. A combat with seven or eight rounds in VBAM: Galaxies will usually give most of the reserves time to cycle through, and that combat represents a whole month in the system. It seems to make sense that, in any fluff universe, not all the ships will be ...

Re: Flights
So far I haven't seen an issue with crippling flights. It makes them more interesting and the rules more consistent, which I like. It would seem that raising Flights by +1 EP/category could be useful to make light flights a more attractive option. Right now there's little point to having them, IMO. ...

Re: Ground Units
After reviewing both systems, I like them both, which presents a conundrum :) But I would frankly prefer BroAdso's for the core rules. Tyrel's new system allows more granularity, making it ideal as either an optional rule or Companion rule. I would tend to go for Optional, simply because it addresse...

August, 3001 - Hordes of tourists from both Sanarth and Tasalan, visiting another world for the first time in 500 years, have caused a number of diplomatic incidents that have raised tensions between the two nations. On Tasalan, Sanarthian tourists traveling under strict orders not to discuss the Ch...

Re: Ground Units
Great writeups, thanks! What do you think of making there be a minimum of 1 pt normal damage per turn if it would otherwise be zero, like the Fed/Klingon last round? I see invasions taking about 3 or 4 months without reinforcements coming, which feels right to me. Long enough to allow an ongoing, gr...

Re: Rising Tide solo 2E/Galaxy
Thank you, BroAdso :) I'm glad it's entertaining. I always did believe the fluff makes the game at least as interesting as the mechanics - which I can't help myself but to fiddle with them, despite my intentions to run a vanilla game. Lol. As we head toward the end of year 2 (3001), the NAW has offe...

Re: Rising Tide solo 2E/Galaxy
The campaign guide (listed at the top) has been fully updated now. I have just revised my rules to include BroAdso's ground combat writeup, but I've merged my old Air Superiority ground combat rules with it. If you like the idea of unused Flights providing ground support, check it out

Re: Bases & Defenses
The 1/3 (or even 1/2) rule is fast, simple, and intuitive. Going by #units ilets defense-in-depth with defsats/mines/def bases allow players to exclude infrastructure like SY from the scenario, or at worst put it in the reserves. A possible way to address the balancing act that you mention might be ...
