I'll check it out next time I dig out my laptop - I don't think I can run it on my Chromebook, but not sure

Re: Space Combat - The Elephant in the Room
Love the Swarm trait, Tyrel! BroAdso's idea does finally make CC a significant factor. I kind of see them handling two different issues, though -- BroAdso's addresses an incremental advantage for having numerical superiority (aside from a beefy reserve pool), while yours makes the Zerg a viable stra...

Re: Ground Units
I see here that my system would result in a lot of inability to damage one another if there are a lot of units supporting the primary but few SpAbilities. It would often all come down to the Special Abilities distribution of the support units and/or air superiority. That may or may not be a bad thin...

Re: System Anomalies
The way I'm doing it, with stellar anomalies (plasma storm, etc) being separate from System Anomalies (derelicts, lost colonies, etc) is working out for me pretty well. I first roll to see if there's a Stellar anomaly. If so, I'm done; if not, I roll out the system as normal with the single added ro...

I lack any coding skills, so couldn't help out, but I have plenty of interest in what *you* are doing

Re: Institutes and XP
I've just been having everything but combat XP get spent during the year-end adjustment phase anyway. I don't think it's a critical issue, but that's my preference. And I agree on spending battle XP as it's earned ("the Hero of Omicron VII," hooray!), in the units that earned it.

Re: Space Combat - The Elephant in the Room
In my own testing, I have found the Single Squadon system perfectly mimics what I expect from a space engagement, as well as the fiction I've read where battles for a system can last a couple months. And from what you say, it also mimics earth naval battles as well. Additionally, I've found that if ...

Re: Ground Units
I am a huge fan of this new way of conceptualizing ground combat! It makes it more similar to the space combat system, which makes it easier to run and remember. It makes things more dynamic by removing the gang-up mechanic which felt repetitive and a very unlike real "battlefronts" of ar...

Re: VBAM Galaxies
I'm probably sticking with the slower movement rates. I just really haven't liked the change of tempo it gives the game when 2-jump is the norm, but that's just my preference and can easily be houseruled whichever way "official Galaxy" goes. It will also make jump lane improvements more im...

Re: Rising Tide solo 2E/Galaxy
The next few months went smoothly. Explorer Fleet discovers how to access the second Samarth warp point right away with a bit of luck, but the system they discover is only Minor (Minor Colony). Although it has a Fair Environment and will be able to support many colonists, its low resource value make...

Re: VBAM Galaxies
Actually, mine warfare was something I've been thinking about. I did an ad-hoc battle or three to test the single-squadron idea and my solo campaign Empire's designs against Universal List ships, and on the one that included mines I found them a bit overpowered. OTOH there's about 4 variants floatin...

Re: System Setup Variation
Nice idea. Purely fluff, but I'm going to call the tiers Trading Post, Market, and Spaceport. The civ base idea is great for in-game purposes, but also if I want to use a setting for fiction or as an RPG setting. EDIT - here is my setup for Civilian Bases, playtesting in my Rising Tide solo campaign...

Re: Institutes and XP
That's a solid plan, Tyrel. I agree with a year-end XP gain, too. Making it part of the year-end process keeps it much simpler without making it anemic, which overall is about my favorite part of Galaxies. It fits, in other words.

Re: Rising Tide solo 2E/Galaxy
Thanks! I'll definitely share my thoughts on the rule variants both from both a normal game viewpoint and regarding the theme of this campaign, so you can cherry pick ideas that worked out if you like them enough. EDIT: I might also end up changing the order or number range of different system items...
