Re: Concerns ...

I'm with the OP on this (and have mentioned it already on a couple of the threads here) that as 2nd ed. goes through various drafts there is a strong link between the stats for the ships and non-CSCR mechanics. I admit I've been away for a while but Cost, Maintenance, number of ships that can act to...

Re: Special Tech Analysis

I like the idea of an Engine tech, if only because I like to see a definite split between Tactical and Strategic unit abilites. This would place Command squarely into the latter....

Re: 2E Tech Questions

Okay now I see. Interesting, although I agree that the math is a extra burden so it's one for a supplemental book. I'm afraid my personal interest is muted as I'll probably never use the Tech rules.

Re: 2E Tech Questions

I don't know - the real impact of this is lost on me. The net effect in this example is to trade a point of DV for Armour 1. And during the game...aren't players going to want to spend Tech points on upgrading individual technologies, in effect pushing back the origin date of the tech? An item for a...

Re: 2E Feedback

How set are the ship building options? i remember you said energy web is not supposed to be there.... I think gunship is overpowered. for 1 space you do 1 point of damage. this makes it at the very least about 40% more effective than AS, why would anyone not put gunship on every ship? and what does...

Re: 2E Feedback

so for surprise, how would it be to tie it more to the game situation as a reward/punishment for player action. something like, surprise can occur in the first scenario generated on the first turn a TF moves into a previously uncontested system from an uncontested system. and then give meaningful c...

Re: 2E Feedback

Another observation, and I realize the thread is jumping all over the palce, is how importnat Command Rating is. It defines squadron size, manipulates the scenario set up and, if using the CSCR, adds to EW. while playing around with suitable stats for BFG I though of just adding enough CR to control...

Re: 2E Feedback

I do feel, as others have said, that there is a lot of random die rolls in the lead up and during combat. Surprise, then Readiness (which can lead to a 2d3 result) and then a d6+readiness during the CSCR. Surprise is the overwhelming factor but a sub-par roll on Suprise and Readiness could mean you ...

Re: 2E Feedback

I haven't had a chance to assimilate all the nuances of therules for Encounters and Combat Resolution...but one thing caught my eye in Bombardment Missions: Anti-System missions. I think Grand Moff Tarkin, Abbadon the Despoiler, the Vorlon Empire and the Shadows are going to be miffed that their Pla...

Re: 2E Feedback

I'd like to echo Mavikfena's point that the core campaign system should focus on being entertaining, quick, and easy (which to me, humbly, means eschewing complexities that don't add to playability, such as differences in the way planetary stats get generated / utilized). As someone who will defina...

Adding to that, shouldn't Armour's Mass be related to Construction Cost? The bigger you are the more armour you need, after all...

As a player/moderator who runs the VBAM system for 40k/BFG the whole idea of tech development is kind of redundant. In fact for most campaigns where conflict is resolved using a licensed setting with fixed ship designs it would hardly be used. It would be cool for an empire to get a one off or exper...

Thanks for all your ideas guys. I was intending to use the regular jump lane rules for the non-eldar players (I'm using 1st ed here) to represent the more predictable streams in the warp. I was thinking of a hex grid system for any Necron player that might join but that is now not the case. There's ...

Different FTL types in one campaign

I’m just after a bit of advice. I’m just about to start a VBAM campaign for 40K and since thee will be an elder player I’m thinking about giving the Eldar alternative movement rules to represent the Webway. Idea One is drawing a different jump lane network. IdeaTwo is to allow them to jump two lanes...
