Re: Any Updates?
While on the face of it diplomacy points sound like a good idea, won't they cross too much with intel points, resulting in both of them being too narrow in their use? Incidentally, with the CSCR, I was trying to figure out why you would ever choose to use squadrons (this is mostly based upon the pre...

Re: Open Playtest
Iron Sky's comment about exploration does make me want to ask, though, if most of you would like to have the exploration and new empire activation rules be included in the Campaign Guide? You're a great cross section of players, and I'm interested if the exploration elements of the game are somethi...

It might be easier for me to play a supporting character because I'm not too familiar with SD,

Re: Oddball build Question(s)
Too fiddly by far, and raises awkward question like "what happens if one of the four transports carrying my infantry regiment aboard is destroyed", etc I think the only reason it comes up is because of the way ship-mass increases by tech level, so it can be ruled out by simply stating that...

Re: Oddball build Question(s)
I am hoping that the answer is no, because it is an extra level of (unneeded) complexity to play,

Re: Any Updates?
I'll clean that up. The idea is that you purchase the new unit but the completion time doesn't proceed until the prototyping is completed successfully. Your interpretation appears to be correct. Before I had that back-loaded so you didn't roll for prototyping success until after the unit was comple...

Re: Battle of the Dreadnoughts
Is it possible to change formation levels in-battle? (I would guess through the use of unit special traits) In principle I like the new formation rules - dropping the annoying fractions and calculations from 1e makes combat much simpler from the players perspective, and also makes CR very useful (wh...

Re: Human Republic Playtest Thread
In light of the discovery at Carthage, I would like to propose that we put a strong emphasis on colonisation for the next six months, and seek to establish a strong colony on Carthage even as we Colonise Archer, and even if this costs us in the short term regarding scouting new systems as well as te...

Re: Human Republic Playtest Thread
Relating this back to Piracy, a system with 4 Piracy probably offers a player a lot of opportunities to finance the pirate's operations and be more active, but the amount of resources needed to escalate things to the next level is considerably higher. Not contesting that - it is exactly as it shoul...

Re: Human Republic Playtest Thread
I'd actually expect it to work kind of the other way around, Whilst I would agree that the real world works that way, I prefer the simple mechanic here. Essentially, it represents hitting the big stuff until it turns into the small stuff that's not worth going after. There's always a little bit of ...

Re: Human Republic Playtest Thread
As an aside, after finishing the conversion of the bombardment missions (which work similar to intel missions, but using bombardment points instead of intel points) I started thinking that it would be more appropriate for the intel missions' difficult values to be variable based on the system's sta...

Re: Human Republic Playtest Thread
If they're always massively superior, then advanced defences won't save us - our only hope will be a combination of diplomacy and underhand intel operations to stop their government moving against us. But if they're massively superior and benevolent, then finding them might help to kick-start our ex...
