Re: Vbam and the blind
The 2e equivalent should be out soon, brand new and focused on making it easier/more streamlined. I've been waiting for it to jump in myself.

Re: Vbam and the blind
The core book doesn't have rules for NPR empires as this is scheduled to be released in a later supplement. From what I hear, most people who played 1e VBAM played it solo. If 2e is similar to 1e (which I have never played, but have read much about), once you run into a non-player empire, you'll rol...

Re: Vbam and the blind
By default, Vbam's combats are resolved in the built-in abstract combat resolution module with adapting the ships to a tactical system as a side module (and significant selling point for many). The general idea is you use the abstract system for the unimportant/lopsided battles and take the really i...

Re: Three Moves Ahead: Lost in Space
That is one of the biggest problems with MOO2 in a nutshell: there was definitely an optimal path to victory... At least back in the day you had to figure it out on your own. A internet search and you've got instant top-level optimization and trap warnings at your fingertips. Rare is the game balan...

To Win MOO2: Racial picks - +population/production picks. Stuff like: unification(always), tolerant, subterranean, rich/large homeworld, +pop growth +production with -spying, ground combat, accuracy Strategy - Sell your starbase on turn 1. Save up your money as you make a beeline for Automated Fact...

Re: Your Wishlist for Companion and First Contact?
Oh! Another thing... the random benefits/flaws part of ship creation as an optional rule. Even though it unbalances the ship creation somewhat, I thought it was neat.

Re: Your Wishlist for Companion and First Contact?
Mostly looking for the solo rules. There's a small chance I can get a forum-based game running with some of my buddies, but usually those fail within a month or two, so I'll probably be playing by myself (as soon as I have some time to mess around with it at all anyway).

Re: So this is dead?
I can report that the playtest game is ongoing. They just ran a combat via email on the playtest group over the last couple weeks between fleets of somewhere around 30-50 ships per side + 20-30 fighters per side. They are tweaking and polishing some rules based on that. Still some ambiguities in the...

Re: Planetary Bodies.
I imagine hot and large planets are somewhat overrepresented due to the most commonly used detection methods: occlusion (planet passes in front of star) which favors closer in planets with shorter periods of rotation "wobble" in the star's distance from earth due to the slight pull from pl...

Re: Second Edition is Coming in the Year 3000
I just read the rules book you emailed out to the playtesters and here are my impressions: Good things: I was nodding constantly. That's a good thing. I kept thinking "that makes sense" and "that's cool" back and forth. Off the top of my head, a few favorites are the Tech Year id...

Have to inflation-adjust time. He was using 1920's days. Just step time increments up one: Days → Weeks, Weeks → Months, Months → Years, Years → Decades.

To be fair, when I saw your thread was titled "House Settings" I assumed it was another of those Kitchen Remodeling spammers that target this forum for some unknown reason. Maybe the mods thought the same and deleted it based off just seeing the title.

OOC: So this doesn't have a mechanical effect? I.E. when someone goes to a neutral star, it automatically joins them? I was under the impression that was the case or do these laws never change default mechanics? Played too much Twilight Imperium (actually, you can never play too much Twilight Imperi...

Re: Turn 1 Voting
House Echelon protests part 3 of the law about to go into effect. If this is understood correctly, from here on out any system not currently owned by a house will automatically join the first house to move ships into orbit? Will it remain in their possession should said ships leave or is this a perm...
