Re: Any life in the old girl?
Have you guys ever looked at Empire of the Sun's combat rules? Not played it myself, but just listened to a podcast and the combat resolution sounds very similar to what VBAM had in 1e and 2e. I think it likewise has a single round of combat resolution. Some reviews will call that combat swingy, but...

Re: Steel Castles sourcebook in the yards!
Hey Charles, What reference, if any, are you using for shell penetration of various weapons versus different thicknesses of armor. I was curious about weapon penetration at different ranges for a game idea of mine, and downloaded a program off TMP that uses some complicated formulas off another webp...

Re: Tech, Special Abilities, and Unit Design
In terms of designing ships and having a fleet veer off at a tangent. Maybe one way to combat that is to make each new design a variation of a previous one and to impose limitations on how much those designs can vary. And you can create designs that differ more from their predecessors but the more t...

Re: What's the first setting book due out for 2e?
Maybe Charles has plans to have his Steel Castles project done up as a real book? Last I heard Jay was working on the FT-campaign book so I would assume that was still ongoing but- not involved with it personally

What's the first setting book due out for 2e?
Another Escalation Wars book? Boltian-Kuissians, something else (licensed?)
Ooops - guess I asked this question a few threads down already, just poking the bear some more! Poke poke space bear!

Re: Federation Admiral Public Update
To no one's surprise, Steve recently announced he'll just use an altered F&E combat system after the two volunteers tasked with making a new system didn't deliver: http://www.starfleetgames.com/federation/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=2024&start=210 A while ago, we go to the point of replacing the ...

Re: Federation Admiral Public Update
As they have that unicorn of Trek licenses, one that runs in perpetuity, I don't blame them for not wanting to jeopardise it and therefore err on the side of caution. Just a shame it didn't come out until years into the project. Yup. And in general they have blamed VBAM devs for the lack of adheren...

Re: Federation Admiral Public Update
If you ask them, they'll say it's because of their license. Steve has even indicated that prior to a few years ago they could be more loose with their content, but now must create games which adhere to the same results :-P Ken Burnside posted on BGG that this stricter adherence coincided with the re...

Re: Federation Admiral Public Update
Well cool that you're building a single squadron game rules to provide an option for those who want it. It's a bit too much for me to digests at the moment, but hopefully the exercise garners some interest and bears fruit. Single squadrons don't really appeal to me but I'm sure they do to others. Al...

Re: Federation Admiral Public Update
What's the point of sharing FASCARs without the encounter system? If the players don't even have scenario length how can they "playtest" the system? Tony isn't even involved in the discussion for that matter and claimed no memory of playing it, so really none of the people discussing it ha...

Re: Federation Admiral Public Update
Don't forget that the confusion regarding scenario generation in the general discussion forum is based on 1st edition rules, not 2nd edition.

Re: Federation Admiral Public Update
Is that what command limits are for? I think the idea of a Battleship fleet is appealing, as a Great War concept, and could be dissuaded by long build times and disproportionately higher maintenance costs. Though don't know if it works well in practice.
