1E: Building stuff at satellite colonies

Post by Boneless »

Is the chain-of-transports method of delivering 10EP from Homeworld to colony only for constructing ships at a remote shipyard? Do you not have to do that for Production points?

I think having to send money to the far colonies is awesome, but I just read the line in 3.7.4 about transport chains not being allowed to cross a restricted lane. Can you just poop out a new shipyard or new Production points wherever you want?

The rules as written in 3.7.4 Base Construction only apply to building bases at remote locations. However, there is no reason that you couldn't allow the same rules to be used to transport construction capacity (1E equivalent of 2E production points) from one planet to another location for use in making other purchases.

Those rules do mention that the construction capacity of the source planet is reduced while it is being used in another location, so if you ferry 15 EP of construction capacity from Colony A to Site B, Colony A's construction capacity will be reduced by 15 until the resource siphon is shut off.

The reason that transport chains cannot cross a restricted lane is because the lane is too poorly mapped or otherwise unreliable to allow a constant stream of civilian units to go across it (I can't remember if civilian fleets could even cross restricted lanes in 1E or not; I think they could, but I played in a few campaigns where that wasn't the case).

They couldn't in the base rules but in the CMC you could assign a scout/hyper-capable unit to be with the civilian fleet that would allow them to cross lanes of that type.

Okay; I couldn't remember how we had that written. Thanks, Murtalian!
