Re: 2E Feedback
The main way I could see justifying Science and (to a lesser degree) Orbital stats is if it was a post-Galactic Empire sort of game where the empires are all picking up the pieces after a total collapse. In other words, it represents the colony's previous level of development before everything fell ...

Re: 2E Test Covers
Yeah, they look like professionally-made sci-fi novel covers.

Re: Open Playtest
I think an "undefined" setting is preferable since there's a good chance whatever setting is picked there will be someone who doesn't know anything about it. As this is pretty much a pen-and-paper 4X game, exploration would seem to be key. It's always one of my favorite parts and once &quo...

Re: Open Playtest
I'll play, if near-complete lack of knowledge of anything pre-2E doesn't rule me out. I wanted to do a solo playtest of 2E but found the lack of all the random npc and exploration generation system and no 1E knowledge crippling.

Re: Any Updates?
I just skimmed through most of the book, here's a few initial impressions from someone who has never played VBAM before: *Propaganda: Insurgency is cool. *Casus belli is only defined after it's mentioned several times. I was wondering if I'd missed it's definition somewhere. *Embassies seem very exp...

Re: Battle of the Dreadnoughts
Two questions/comments from my recent re-reading of the (outdated) ship combat rules you released last year: 1) Doesn't the command ship in each squadron gain +1 Formation Level? 2) Couldn't the ships have used close-range fire? I would think, at least in the first round when there's very little ris...

Re: Human Republic Playtest Thread
[Senator]Though I man not agree with all the decisions the current government makes, I think putting too many restrictions on them limits their ability to make significant progress. As long as a "reasonable" amount of resources are committed research (say 5-10% revenue per year ), that wou...

Re: Human Republic Playtest Thread
[Senator]A little over two months ago I said these very words on the Senate floor: "With the amount of military personal we have out charting the jumplanes, I do not doubt that a superior system will soon be found whose immediate colonization would further our ends more than planting undesirabl...

Re: Human Republic Playtest Thread
I'll stay independent until it gets close to the next year, then I might join or form a new faction. :) I have the distinction of never having played 1E and knowing almost nothing about it, so I'm seeing 2E pretty much fresh. I have no attachment to how things were done in 1E, just how things are go...

Re: Human Republic Playtest Thread
[Senator]I think party affiliation forces members to march lock-step following the party line, fostering inflexibility and dogmatic rather than pragmatic thinking. As a practical, independent Senator, then, I have the ability to view our empire's goals, strengths, and weaknesses with an objectivity ...
