Re: RAW vs. Raw Materials
RAW for me--it makes it more ambiguous, because it looks like an acronym, plus it can easily fit in two rows of squared paper...:p

Re: Convoy Names
I'd argue that both options are valid, depending on the source material. If you've got modular freighters where a ship can stick on a habitation pod for colonists/passengers and do the weekly interstellar ferry from Sol to Proxima, then switch out the pods for mining ore or fine silks from Orion III...

Re: Rebellions
Maybe a staggered response? They start of merely being non-productive, but after 6-12 turns, if the rebellion isn't put down, they then become a minor power in their own right--view it as the rebellion getting the beginnings of a governmental structure and sounding out potential avenues of support. ...

Re: Institutes and XP
I'd argue a hybrid system--the standard 'trickle' method of gaining XP which would model the situation where, occasionally, you have an outstanding naval officer or ground-pounder suddenly emerge, with the Institute being the way to 'upgrade' those officers. As for the value for XP, I'd argue that m...

Re: Encounter Resolution
I think most of my future campaign diaries are going to be simpler affairs or have a RTF version available because I've found that it works pretty good loading campaign diaries onto my Kindle to read them around the house rather than having to go back to the computer. But then I'm probably an outli...

Re: Fools Rush In
I must admit I enjoyed those campaign diaries. Such a pity you ran into both the Minbari and the Attarn in them--it would have been really nice for some benevolent ally to show up in the 'Fools Rush In' campaign...

Re: Extended Construction Times
(neo-Luddite here :D) I always went without construction times for two main reasons: 1) Sometimes I had a break of a couple of days between turns, and a ship building sometimes got lost. There were plenty of times in my campaigns that I lost ships (or had more ships than there should be) without con...

Re: Jump Lanes & Movement
Ahem, Tyrel, remember who you're talking to--the neo-Luddite that plays with pen and paper :D I'm concerned with the upgrading/downgrading of jump lanes, so I need a P+P method of both marking jump lanes and then modifying it in a way that keeps the readability of the map...One method I've toyed wit...

Re: Jump Lanes & Movement
Of the options presented, I'd say that: [*](Major) Allow a fleet to move across one major lane in addition to other movement this turn [*](Restricted) Military ships treat restricted lanes as minor lanes, but civilian convoys require military escort to cross the lane Would be the 'better' options. I...

I think either, but Convoy does indicate more a collection of ships that require protection.

Re: System Anomalies
I voted Abandoned/Splinter Colony, Ruins, Dense Asteroids and Black Hole. The first two are because, in general, my campaigns always tend to be centred on the lost colony reaching back into space. Ruins is fairly similar to that, and for thematic reasons it might give another dimension (such as Char...

You could make an argument that the Census point isn't being lost, it's simply being transferred...;) [ALERT: THIS UNIT REQUIRES MORE COFFEE :D] But I'm of the opinion that it would make sense to transfer the Intel point along with the Census. After all, if you've got a big enough intelligence secti...

Re: Steel Castles sourcebook in the yards!
IIRC, the heavy guns onboard the heavy combatants simply didn't have the turning ability to engage the TBs or destroyers as they made their runs (although this is from a pre-dread viewpoint). I'd say AS should be unable to target the fighter-destroyers, or maybe halve their effectiveness (because a ...
