Re: 2E Playtest: Universal Aquisitions

First battle in my actual playtest. I rolled Pirates just after ordering the bulk of my Home Fleet out of the system to go and pacify some natives with nukes. What should immediately occur, but I roll Pirates. 12EP of them, and give them a light carrier, a bomber flight, and a fighter flight, which ...

Re: 2E Playtest: Universal Aquisitions

Wow. I just rolled PIRATES! in my home system, despite sufficient Police patrols, rendering the system Contested, and cutting off 80% of my space fleet from supply. While Sol is heavily defended by fortresses, and the pirate force isn't really powerful enough to threaten the forts, I don't have enou...

Re: 2nd Edition Playtest Report- Terran Commonwealth

A second point is you a system can only support CCs equal to its Industry x census, putting a cap on the number of units you can build.

Re: Battleship Smash Playtest

virtutis.umbra, you have a good eye for numbers. Rearranged like that, it was a pretty fair fight. I ran a pair of fights (I have a spreadsheet that makes it pretty fast for small fights), and while the swinginess is still quite alarming, the results were interesting. Fight 1 Turn 1 The Russians man...

Re: Battleship Smash Playtest

Thanks for the feedback guys! I tried another one, but it was a bit too ambitious. Two battleships supported by five offscreen light carriers and 10 flights vs two dreadnoughts, a heavy cruiser, a pair of light cruisers, and five destroyers. It's looking pretty even. Flights make Guided way more eff...

Battleship Smash Playtest

For fun, I ran a few simulated tests with two divisions of almost identical BBs bludgeoning each other for 6 rounds. I had been under the impression that Guided was excessively powerful, and should cost a lot more than AS. I was so very, very wrong. The contenders! Iowa class Battleship Starship TL0...

Re: 2nd Edition Playtest Report- Terran Commonwealth

Another quick rules question. Are mapped jump lanes mapped for everybody, or does each power have to map each lane for itself? I think the answer is no shared exploration but I thought I'd check. On a general note, assuming that you need to track who has explored what jump lane, how do people typic...

Re: Consult the Book of Armaments

I donno, I kind of like defender assigned damage, with either special actions or weapons that allow the attacker to assign it. I kind of see it as keeping the enemy honest. In WWI and WWII surface actions, one of the important things to do was to ensure that all enemy vessels were fired upon, even i...

Re: Expanded System Resources

Well, for Research, rather than inventing a whole new resource, you could tie it to the number of Jump lanes. I mean, assuming Jump technology is a big part of what we're investing in, it would make sense that having more lanes to study means more tech. And since jump lanes are associated with syste...

Re: 2E Playtest: Universal Aquisitions

Tyler, I cross-posted with you.

I like the idea of Facilities being tied to CAP. Perhaps a Facility could take up a CAP slot? High CAP low resource systems then could be useful because you could put a whole pile of facilities there.

Re: 2E Playtest: Universal Aquisitions

* That sounds about right. The exploration rate is actually a bit faster than normal, but then I think you've got quite a few exploration forces all actively exploring which drastically improves those odds. The relocation and hitting the end of your starting supply tether doesn't tend to stifle expl...

Re: 2E Playtest: Universal Aquisitions

Looking at countercheck's Census and food production as near as I can figure it, I see 19 Census and 76 food. At 2 food per Census that would put them eating 38 food with 38 food leftover. That's enough to support another 19 Census or 950 population points (ouch). The food maintenance for PP could ...

Re: Consult the Book of Armaments

Wait, does fighter AS still work like that? Guided, as written, would need to be really expensive. It's got a few major enhancements, and not enough drawbacks: First strike, Attacker Assigns, Fixed Maximum Damage, Ignores Formation Level. PD blocking it directly isn't that much of a penalty, really,...

Re: 2E Playtest: Universal Aquisitions

I'm pleased with how long it takes to mobilize properly. I could have thrown a pair of ships at the more aggressive of the two little systems I've discovered, but instead, I took a few turns to put a proper task group together. I'll be able to get effectively 40 AS, which means I can generate an ant...
