Regarding Solo Campaigns

Posted this in Tyrel's Fed Campaign thread but perhaps it's better off here: Some portions reference that same campaign: http://forums.vbamgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1728 I wonder is there a system within VBAM specifically designed for Solo play? I get the impression that most solo campaigns ...

Re: A New Beginning - Early Federation Campaign

I wonder is there a system within VBAM specifically designed for Solo play? I get the impression that most solo campaigns are sort of born with the requirement that the player indulges in a bit of schizophrenia and by the end is perhaps gaming multiple empires and not simply the one he/she began wit...

Re: Robotech: Shadow Chronicles

Shadow Chronicles was okay from what I remember though there were a few too may very well endowed women in it for my tastes. Seemed like it's going for the low-hanging fruit.

Don't know if anything ever came after that?

Re: Wing Commander Fans...

On the subject of wing commander, there's a total conversion mod for Freespace 2 for Wing Commander. I think it has an original campaign as well. http://www.wcsaga.com/

Re: A New Beginning - Early Federation Campaign

Are the Volus from Mass Effect? Kinda look like a Hitchhikers alien but Reapers I think is ME (haven't played those games too much but will one day)

Re: Three Moves Ahead: Lost in Space

That is one of the biggest problems with MOO2 in a nutshell: there was definitely an optimal path to victory, and doing anything else was suboptimal to the point that in a competitive environment you'd be overwhelmed. Of course, my experience is that 4x multiplayer games stop being fun once you hav...

Re: Three Moves Ahead: Lost in Space

But yeah the economic mod for VBAM sounds cool and like it would do the trick. Not sure how much fun that would be for the players in practice. I think it would be fine in a two player wargame scenario, like a Narn/Centauri War game, when you have two empires fighting a fixed conflict. In that case...

Re: Three Moves Ahead: Lost in Space

Is the Pod mechanic truly a tech requirement of the consoles? Xcom EU is also on the Ipad3, which is said to be comparable in some ways to the 360/PS3 but not sure it's more powerful across the board. I suspect the pod mechanic might be a dumbing down of mechanics for the audience? In the same way t...

Re: Three Moves Ahead: Lost in Space

One of the reasons (plus the permanent loss of troops) that I liked the old XCOM so much. New one was too "gamey" for me - i.e. "It will take me exactly 3 shots to kill this muton" vs the old XCOM's obscured and unpredictable combats. I'm not fond of the new Xcom either for simi...

Re: Crossover Works

I don't recall all the variants of the Nova but I do know that one has all Medium Lasers and the latter has Laser/Pulse arrays so maybe the AS/AF would be say 6/1 and then 6/6 or whatnot. The ML variant is also technically more vulnerable in some ways because for example the weapons have less struct...

Re: Crossover Works

I'm thinking more about stuff like the Drazi tendency to have eleventy-billion Sunhawk variants that swap weapons around but all end with about the same level of firepower, or the Alpha/Beta variants of the Omega Destroyer (The Beta just swaps out the Heavy Lasers for Heavy Pulse Cannons, nearly th...

Re: Crossover Works

I think there's room to get creative with all the different variants. Command Hyperion for example might have less AS but higher CR. Maybe the Railgun version has Gunship for example depending upon how that trait works. At some point being true to the game takes second seat to creating a fun fleet t...

Re: Crossover Works

Regarding the Omega Destroyer. Actually in a 2nd season episode with the re-programmed free mars guy, Garibaldi describes the Omega as an "Earth Force Cruiser". So calling it a cruiser in VBAM is I think not only justifiable but supported somewhat by the show :)
