If OO doesn't cut it, try something like:

http://www.xara.com/uk/

Xara is pretty good (the interface is streets ahead of illustrator anyway, even if it doesn't have quite the same functionality - then again, trained monkeys could code a better UI than adobe),

Limited War

Not sure if this sin't too late, but... Have you considered some more "Wartime" states for VBAM2.0? At the moment you have Hostilities, and War. Both of which have fairly far-reaching powers, with serious limitations. What about considering something like: Limited War (or Objective War): Y...

Re: Siming hyperdrives and other non nodal movement FTLs

Does anyone have some experience with this to share? Not experience as such, but my thoughts are... 1/ The nodal hex-based system in CMG does cover this in rules, 2/ In terms of the game it will mean decapitation-raids will be a real threat (big fleet can just turn up at your capital at any time) w...

Thirded,

The local campaign rules where really what I wanted out of the supplement,

Really quite disappointing, though I guess page-count is a much bigger deal if you are planning to publish the entire line rather than selling electronically,

Have you considered pairing off infrastructure stats? That way each sub-table has effects for two different stats? That gets you down to four table results? So you then have plenty of room to manoeuvre, The catch being that swapping tables out and in becomes a little more annoying - and there is som...

Thinking about it, I would almost be tempted to take the number of colonies out of the PGP calculation and just have it be +1 PGP per 10 Census (round up) because it is simpler to just do the Census / 10 calc on the fly. Suits me, I was never totally happy with # of colonies being part of the popul...

I voted no, but with variable costs, Have you considered the following though: Allow players to convert census back into PGPs, and allow PGPs to be transportable? PGPs then convert back into census as necessary, This way the issues with transporting census fade away (and a big-census world can creat...

Kind of ironic that they're the most interesting bit!

Sorry, I mean the VBAM Games Blog:

Sorry - I keep forgetting that there's no link back to the rest of the VBAM games site from the forums (very annoying),

While this isn't an optimal solution, how about changing Major/Minor to : Roll an extra d10. On a 9 or 10, major success/failure. Anything else is Minor. Special abilities can potentially modify the range. It has the roughly the same odds as "numbers ending in 5 or 0", but requires an ext...

But I still have problems with the odd/even success system. It greatly reduces the ability of legendary officers and crew to mitigate bad results or improve good results and it doesn't allow for much in the way of situational adjustments. It seems very arbitrary in its results. Well it is a dice ro...

My only complaint on the even/odd mechanic is that sometimes the difference between a minor/major result is quite large. For exploration, if I roll a minor failure I make no progress, but if I roll a major failure I could lose the whole squadron? Since the difference between those two results could...

Re: Shared Worlds

I was pondering something similar as it happens - with the Empires starting as the US, EU, Japan, China, etc The VBAM: JC rules does something like this on Mars, splitting the planets CC between the two martian factions - and it looks like VBAM 2e might make this a bit simpler to arbitrate, So I wou...

I think they turn up in some form in the Honor Harrington books (not as a null "system", but as tracts of space that have to be crossed in "real space" rather than the much faster hyperspace (Honor among enemies perhaps?), They would slow advances somewhat (maybe take an extra tu...
