Re: VBAM Second Edition Errata

Sect 3.1.2 Commerce Income mentions to multiply by 50% and then "round fractions to the nearest whole number." In other words, round up? I think there are some typos in the examples on Page 31. "example section 1" 4 Artemis Ca > 3 Active (what about the forth?) "example sect...

Re: VBAM Second Edition Errata

Page 9 under Attrition it states "Ground forces don’t cripple," however I think it would be clearer to say "Ground forces cannot be Crippled." Otherwise, it suggests the unit is unable to inflict the Crippled status upon other units. I also capitalized it since it is a keyword. T...

Re: VBAM Second Edition Errata

How should feedback be submitted? Should players post questions and comments in this thread or should this be reserved for official rulings from VBAM? Maybe make an official Q&A thread to go alongside this one?

Re: 2nd Edition progress?

Finally sorted out how to reactive my account. :) (I'm dnd from above.) File looks great for viewing on PC. If I may make one suggestion - a single column format is best for viewing on mobile devices. Might be something to check out if you're interested in experimenting with different flavors of ele...

It was my attempt to translate: "In addition to advancing these tech levels, empires will be able to purchase individual technologies that they can use in the game. Most of these technologies take the form of equipment that can be used to design new units, but some will serve as enhancement or ...

Flavor aside, fundamental game mechanics with formulas that include variables like "0.95^4" have significant impacts to the look and feel of a game -- particularly first impressions for players new to the genre. If I were in your shoes, I'd leave it out of the core rules for that reason al...

It's been our experience that the vast majority (95%+) of the non-solo games are played via email and usually utilize a spreadsheet to track an empire's assets and orders. Needing a spreadsheet to handle the previous edition is/was just as much of a problem. I'm sure people usually utilize a spread...

Unit design is a relatively simple step-by-step process that can be done by hand with paper, a pencil, and a calculator. Simple relative to what? The math actually seems relatively complex compared to modern tabletop and RPG games - this is the only one I know of that has exponential formulas. A ca...

Sounds very cool, but this part confuses me: "Players with better tech will be able to either include more stats for the same Mass, or else build a ship at a lower Mass and a comparatively lower cost. How the rules are setup, too, even if going for a lower Mass will not decrease your Constructi...

Of course I don't expect you guys to automatically accept all comments and incorporate them as fast as possible. Heck, that's why I stated up front that I haven't played a game of VBAM. I know everything I say should be taken with a grain of salt. :) What I must confess I got frustrated with is that...

I'm getting some mixed signals. The blog suggests an eagerness for feedback but I'm getting the impression that the repeated mentions of the current stage of development is just a polite way of saying "your feedback is not desirable at this time." I didn't think my high level comments were...

Well, it wasn't my intention to start a digression into semantics, but I do feel the need to justify myself a little bit. :) I considered it tactical solely because I was focused on how the new system involves making decisions as to what ships will attack what target and at what range on a round-by-...

I'm pretty new to VBAM. I own the 1st Ed but have never played it (for probably the same reasons why a 2nd Ed is being made). Anyways, not to get too heavy into semantics, but CSCR sounds more like a CTCR (Campaign Tactical Combat Resolution) to me. Especially so with the added decision making embed...
