Re: Using VBAM for an Honorverse-type Setting

I don't want to necro my very old thread, but starting a new one seemed silly. Is 2E any better at simulating the Honorverse? I created and played an Honorverse game for about 15 turns before I realized that the balance was skewed too much toward Manticore (they built up so fast that they basically ...

Morale Loss for Conquering a Planet

In the rules, it says that the morale loss for conquering a planet can be high. However, it never says what that morale loss is. If you conquer a HW, which usually has a morale of 9, how far will that drop? Surely down to 0 or close to there, right? It would be somewhat weird for an empire to take o...

Re: Shipyards in Systems With Multiple Planets

It's really strange that shipyards aren't mentioned in the advanced system generation rules even once. The closest reference is fixed defenses.

I'm going to track it on a planetary basis. Otherwise my Manticore will have shipyards with 13 docks each and a 225 capacity and that's just unbalancing.

Shipyards in Systems With Multiple Planets

Is shipyard capacity and dock space calculated on a system basis or planetary basis? This is hugely important in an Honorverse campaign because if it is on a system basis, Manticore's shipyards will be absurdly good (with tons of dock space and a really high capacity). I am shocked that this informa...

Re: Transfering EP

I assume a transport can carry them and deliver them and they would be reported as Misc. income on the following turn.

How many could a transport carry? 10 seems excessive. Maybe 5?

Transfering EP

Is there a way to transfer EP from one power to another? I was hoping to also to find a way an advanced empire could help a primitive power catch up in tech, but that seems to be absent. In fact, the whole tech level part of the game seems to be very, very basic. If an empire starts out with a highe...

Re: Tech Level Economic Bonuses

I went with a .01 economic bonus per tech year.

Re: Tech Level Economic Bonuses

That's very indirect.

It also requires a ton of new units to make tech investment worthwhile.

I'm going to have to come up with an economic bonus I think. Maybe .01 per tech year or something.

Tech Level Economic Bonuses

At the beginning of the Campaign Guide, the glossary says: Tech: Tech is the representation of the technological development of a society. Over the course of a campaign, a player will have to decide how much investment in technology is needed to remain competitive with their neighbors. If ignored, a...

Re: Using VBAM for an Honorverse-type Setting

Good suggestions. I'm going to bypass the command ships, even though there is at least one example of that class in SITs (RMN Crusader CAs serve as flags for Prince Consort squadrons). I've never liked specialty command ships. It just adds another column to the spreadsheet and it can be assumed that...

Re: Using VBAM for an Honorverse-type Setting

Since it will be a solo scenario, I was thinking maybe of having 4 movement pulses during the turn to allow some reaction movement. If Manticore takes a system 20 LY away from a major Haven base (or vice versa), it might not work to allow them to hold it for an entire month when Haven could just com...

Re: Using VBAM for an Honorverse-type Setting

I'm not sure why I didn't think of it before. By cutting the costs back, I can use all the default rules on construction time, shipyard costs, trade fleet costs, etc. The movement system is the next major hurdle. Weber's ships can move REALLY fast in a month (military ships can move 3,000c, which me...

Re: Using VBAM for an Honorverse-type Setting

On reflection, there's no reason to not just cut the proposed costs by 80% and use RAW alone to manipulate the economy. This produces a Haven economy of around 400 EP, a Manticore of around 300 EP, with maintenance costs of 263 and 168 respectively.

Re: Using VBAM for an Honorverse-type Setting

The economy will be scaled up. Right now I'm working with numbers that give the Haven system a 500 EP output and have the Haven fleet costing about 1300 EP in maintenance. I figure the entire PRH will need to gross around 2000 EP. Manticore will have to be similar (perhaps using extensive trade flee...

Re: Using VBAM for an Honorverse-type Setting

The key is to play a strategic level game that preserves the feel of the Honorverse. Look at Honor Among Enemies. Admiral Tourville's huge victory is scored by a fleet of BCs and CAs against a fleet of CAs and CLs. Manticore is garrisoning a strategic system with just a CA squadron. So, the light sh...
